This coffee was produced by smallholder producers in the Worka Chelbesa village, and was processed at one the local wet mill operated by Negusse Debela. As an effort to continue improving their quality, Neguesse produces unique experimental lots, such as this Red Honey processed lot, which is technically not recognised in Ethiopia.
The area is known for its dense semi-forest vegetation, providing ideal conditions for shade-grown coffee.
Local farmers grow Wolisho and Dega variety coffee, which are landrace varieties from the Yirgacheffe region.
Cherries are manually harvested before being taken to the processing station where they are handsorted before being processed. The sorted cherries are then pulped and dried on raised beds, while still retaining their mucilage, until reaching their ideal humidity. The mucilage is then milled and the coffee is prepared for export.
