WHAT WOULD THE BALTIC WAY SOUND LIKE TODAY?
KALVE is a young company with a relatively young team. Our average age is around 30, and most of us were born after August 23, 1989. Yet the spirit - a belief in collective strength, freedom, and the idea that differences can coexist - is present in us and runs through us through generations. August 23 is a wonderful date to celebrate not only the anniversary of the Baltic Way, but also the fact that today, we can! And we can be different - and that is our strength!
To mark the occasion, on August 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM, BALTIC RADIO will come on in all KALVE coffee shops across the Baltics - a special DJ mix curated by our friend Elvi Soulsystems.
BALTIC RADIO is our collective attempt to reconnect the Baltics for one small moment - this time through sound. One recording - three countries - many listening points.
It is our gift to everyone who holds Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania dear - our Baltics.

''To achieve a real feeling of three different cultures together will require a bit of cognitive dissonance. It seems not enough to do the usual DJ thing - mix together more or less cosmopolitan beats from our respective citadels to a cohesive effect. Instead – I aim to create a special kind of atmosphere – akin to that felt by us during the historic Via Baltica – in the contemporary musical landscape. Thus language becames a centre piece of the selection process. So when we listen to it or just hear it in the background at a coffee shop we are blasted with not just the very diverse musical choices but also the three distinct and beautiful languages – sung, spoken or merely quoted in the titles. That is not to say there’s something wrong with singing in English or any other language, it’s just that for this particular occasion it seemed essential that we come into contact with Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian words and rhymes and symbols. So this is quite a bumpy ride – an imaginary Baltic radio station that constantly switches between Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius. Some of the material is personal and dear to me because it is created by friends, some of it is me discovering artistry within my research. Some of it will be familiar to the respective culture, some of it may be a discovery even for the land it is homegrown in. And the glue is a plunderphonic piecing together of media from history and from our Baltic environment. With a firm belief in the Baltic connection – here’s hoping that this little musical journey stands the test of time while doing the exact opposite of nostalgia and trying to catch the zeitgeist of music making in our small region.'' - Elvi Soulsystems
