This single-origin Red Bourbon coffee comes from the Shyira station – the highest coffee growing region in Rwanda, where cherries are carefully hand-sorted, fermented, and gently dried for 30 days on raised beds.
Known for its bright berry notes, silky texture, and vibrant acidity, it was originally offered as a filter roast – but for the Roast Masters 2025 competition was specially roasted as an espresso to highlight new flavor dimensions and sweetness intensity. This was the coffee that led us to victory in the "Espresso Smackdown" discipline – proving that true flavor is born where unique origin meets precise roasting and the craft of espresso brewing.
Roast info
This coffee is roasted for espresso, meaning that it will present with higher intensity, rich texture and sweetness, lower acidity and more distinct caramelization flavours. Espresso roasts have higher solubility, meaning that you will be able to access the coffee flavours with more ease. Even though it is more suited for espresso machines and mokka pots, you can definitely enjoy it in any other method as well if you're looking for a richer cup.

We recommend you enjoy this coffee within 3 months of the roasting date.
Store in a dry and cool place, between +16 and +25 degrees.
The biggest challenge in the competition was adapting to unfamiliar coffee varieties.
As Raimonds notes, “The greatest challenge is always working on yourself. You have to learn to trust your expertise and abilities.”

From Championship to Your Cup
From April 3 to 5, the KALVE Coffee team achieved a historic victory at the Roast Masters 2025 competition in Amsterdam, securing 1st place! This triumph not only underscores our unwavering commitment to quality but also marks a new chapter in Latvia’s coffee industry history, surpassing our previous 2nd-place achievement in 2019.
Raimonds Selga, one of only 15 World Coffee Championships (WCC) representatives in Europe, consistently participates as a judge on the global stage, carrying Latvia’s name worldwide. Jānis Podiņš, a coffee professional, has previously triumphed at Coffee Masters London 2023 and the European Barista Cup 2024.
